What is the Group Policy Central Store

The Group Policy Central Store is a central location where administrative templates (.adm, .admx) and language (.adml) files are kept that are used to present the configurable settings in the Group Policy Editor.

Requesting Addition of Administrative Templates

If you would like to request the addition of additional administrative templates to the Central Store, please contact ad-reqeusts@its.utexas.edu.

 

Using Local Administrative Templates

You may need to use administrative templates stored on a local computer to edit a GPO.  This may be the case when you are using special software specific to your department and the administrative templates are not in the Central Store.

If you need to be able to edit a GPO using administrative templates on a local computer you can create / set the following registry setting:

Be sure to add the admx and adml files to the proper locations:

When you want to revert to using the Central Store you can delete the setting or modify the value to 0.
