Requesting Addition of Administrative Templates
If you would like to request the addition of additional administrative templates to the Central Store, please contact ad-reqeusts@its.utexas.edu.
Using Local Administrative Templates
You may need to use administrative templates stored on a local computer to edit a GPO. This may be the case when you are using special software specific to your department and the administrative templates are not in the Central Store.
If you need to be able to edit a GPO using administrative templates on a local computer you can create / set the following registry setting:
- Name: EnableLocalStoreOverride
- Type: REG_DWORD
- Location: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Group Policy
- Value: 1
(A value of 1 will force use of the local PolicyDefinitions.)
Be sure to add the admx and adml files to the proper locations:
- ADMX files: C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions
- ADML Files: C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions\en-US
When you want to revert to using the Central Store you can delete the setting or modify the value to 0.
